    "Boomtown"

The name David & David may not ring bells right away, but their biggest hit (from their only one album), "Welcome To The Boomtown" will surely hit the memory bells for those who were around back in 1986. David & David consisted of musicians David Baerwald and David Ricketts, from Los Angeles, California. Two other songs from their album Boomtown hit the charts: "Swallowed By The Cracks," and "Ain't So Easy." Both of these songs did not achieve the greatness as "Welcome To The Boomtown."

It's easy to hear how "Swallowed By The Cracks" would be a Top 20 hit. (Too bad it didn't reach higher.) This song is simply GREAT. Likewise, on their other Top 20 hit, "Ain't So Easy," this also is avery good song, and great songwriting.

Since the Boomtown album was released in 1986, some of their songs could have easily been used in the popular '80s TV show Miami Vice: "Being Alone Together" and the mysterious "Heroes."

1980s music at its best for these two songs: "A Rock For The Forgotten" and "River's Gonna Rise." The deep-voiced vocals on these tracks is similar to another popular band of the '80s: INXS. Duran Duran, another popular band from the 1980s, is reminded on "All Alone In The Big City."

There is no doubt, Boomtown is a fine, fantastic release. Baerwald & Ricketts only released one album. It would have been great to hear future releases. "Welcome To The Boomtown" would become their signature hit. Boomtown is definielty worth checking out. "Welcome To The Boomtown" maybe a one-hit wonder for David & David, but the rest of their album can easily be seen as great songs and easily recognized talent. David & David disbanded not too long after Boomtown. Baerwald and Ricketts continued onward to work with other musicians. They both appeared on Sheryl Crow's debut album, Tuesday Night Music Club.
